Hello Bennett County Families!
My name is Carleen Simpson and I am the Bennett County Middle and High School Mental Health Coordinator. Since this may be your first contact with a Mental Health Coordinator, I would like to take a moment to describe my role. Mental Health Coordinators actively address barriers that interfere with student achievement. I will provide services to students and families such as: crisis intervention; individual counseling; family engagement; and coordination of school and community resources.
While working with students, I help them build strategies to:
o Make more effective and healthier decisions.
o Increase and/or develop coping skills.
o Assist with conflict resolution and anger management.
o Increase and/or develop appropriate social interaction skills.
o Assist with understanding and accepting self and others.
o Improve attendance.
o Positively adjust to change.
o Provide family support and resources.
o Build better relationships with others and be more successful in school.
Your involvement in your child’s education is essential. As such, I am available to have meetings to provide support and/or address your concerns and goals for your child. I can be reached by email at carleen.simpson@k12.sd.us or by phone at (605) 685-6330. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind regards,
Carleen Simpson, MSW
